The Quality Assurance Specialist oversees, evaluates and maintains systems, documentation, processes, training, procedures, quality controls and reporting. The position ensures the department is in compliance with the rules and regulation of the regulatory agencies, that company policies and procedures are being followed, and the behavior in the organization meets the required standards. The Quality Assurance Specialist works as the channel of communication to receive and direct compliance issues to appropriate resources for investigation and resolution, and as the final internal resource with which concerned parties are notified.



  • Develops initiates, maintains, and revises policies and procedures with the Director of Lending for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent legal or improper conduct. Manages the day-to-day operations of the mortgage compliance programs.
  • Collaborates with other departments (e.g. Risk Management, Internal Audit, and IT) to direct compliance issues to appropriate channels for resolution.
  • Acts as an independent review and evaluation body to ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the department are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans for resolution.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
  • Monitors the performance of the compliance program and relates activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of proficiency on CFPB, NCUA, State, Federal and Investor requirements, as well as internal compliance and quality policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and effective implementation of all changes to compliance policies and procedures.
  • Identify compliance defects and associated risks and make related improvement steps.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed to address and resolve compliance issues.
  • Works with management to address and resolve compliance exams and internal audits.
  • Manages and ensures HMDA data scrub and reporting is accurate
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Minimum of 5 years' mortgage industry experience required with a focus on risk management, compliance, and/or quality assurance/quality control.
  • Working knowledge of compliance regulations such as RESPA, TILA, QM, ATR, HOEPA, TRID and other regulatory developments related to consumer protections laws.
  • Strong work ethics with the ability to work independently and under strict timelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and in teams. 
  • Must have working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Occasional travel and the ability to adapt to flexible work hours to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects. Weekend work may be required.  Will be required to be on call and carry a personal pager and/or cell phone for 24x7 coverage.
  • Ability to calmly and objectively respond to robberies and reports of thefts and threats.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and good understanding of the Credit Union business functions and processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, time-oriented environment and perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers and business partners.



B.A. / B.S. degree or high school degree with equivalent work experience required.
