The Senior Mortgage Processor is responsible for assisting with management of the loan pipeline, closing and funding of first and second mortgage loans by providing guidance in the daily duties of Loan Processors and Funder/Closers. This role has the authority to provide exceptions on complex mortgage files, and uses experience to resolve escalated situations. Additionally, this position provides back-up support to the Processors and Funders/Closers to ensure mortgage files are handled in a timely manner to meet credit union and compliance standards.



  • Assists with managing the processing and closing of the Mortgage Lending pipeline.
  • Provides guidance and direction to the Processors and Funders/Closers to prioritize workload
  • Has the authority to approve exceptions to loan guidelines
  • Focuses on reaching the credit union's monthly production goals by directly monitoring the pipeline of loan in processing. Support the overall vision of the credit unions annual production goal.
  • Works directly with Mortgage Lending management to ensure all support staff are clear on their specific job expectations. This may include coaching and clarification of their specific job responsibilities.
  • Trains and supports staff to assure the efficiency, quality compliance and timeliness in processing all mortgage loans with goal of obtaining established turnaround times.
  • Motivation of the Mortgage team to perform effectively and promotes the Credit Unions vision and work ethic expectations. 
  • Assists in developing and recommending new operations strategies, methods of processing for the optimal turnaround times.
  • Provide underwriting as necessary based on loan volume, delegated lending limits and vacancy of the underwriter.
  • Provide processing as necessary based on loan volume and vacancy of the Mortgage Processor and Funder/Closer.
  • Ensures Credit Union adherence to lending policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance. Promptly reports to Mortgage Lending management on all matters of unusual activity including but not limited to deviations from standard policy, internal or external trends that may negatively impact the portfolio and/or weaknesses within the loan portfolio, concerns regarding regulatory compliance, systems or member service.
  • Ascertain that department compliance audits are performed on closed loans to insure they adhere to credit union standards.
  • Recommends procedures and coordinates changes in processes with all other functional areas to ensure lending functions are performed in an efficient, timely and member friendly manner.
  • Keeps well informed of local and national economic, financial, political and legislative events that could impact the credit union and the attainment of its lending goals.
  • Performs special projects and other functions as assigned by Mortgage Lending management.
  • Utilizes internal best practices and industry benchmarks for determining departmental goals and objectives. Hold the team accountable and directs activities to successfully attain established goals and objectives.
  • Assures that Mortgage Lending management is kept fully informed of the conditions and operations of the Mortgage Operations.
  • Keeps all Credit Union member and employee related business in the strictest of confidence. 



  • Must have a minimum of 5 years experience and technical knowledge in the area of mortgage lending.
  • Must also have a thorough knowledge of credit union and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and document findings related to new products, processes, and services, including the ability to extrapolate Member acceptance, impact on other departments, and financial implications.
  • With guidance assist in managing projects from inception thorough post implementation review



Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
